HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 08-22 Dart InitiativesRESOLUTION NO. 08-22 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY PARK, TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE DALLAS AREA RAPID TRANSIT LEGISLATIVE INITIATIVES WHEREAS, in anticipation of the 815~ Texas Legislative Session, the Board of Directors for Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) passed a State Legislative Agenda on August 26, 2008; and WHEREAS, City of University Park has been a loyal and strong member of DART since 1983; and WHEREAS, the mission of DART is to build, establish and operate a safe, efficient and effective transportation system that provides mobility, improves the quality of life, and stimulates economic development in the thirteen member cities; and WHEREAS, it is important that the thirteen member cities of DART show united support in the 81 St Texas Legislative Session behind the State Legislative Agenda of DART. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RE50LVED that on October 21, 2008 the City Council of City of University Park, Texas hereby agrees and supports the State Legislative Agenda for the 815~ Texas Legislative Session as passed by the DART Board of Directors on August 26, 2008. H LM S, III, AYOR ATTEST: BRANDY VO , CITY ECRETARY 080130 Attachment l DART State Legislative Agenda For the 81 ~` Session of the Texas Legislature ACTIVELY PURSUE: • Amend Chapter 452 of the Texas Transportation Code to allow DART to pledge its sales and use taxes and other revenues, such as farebox revenues, as a Srst pled$e to pay back bonds. The statute currently only allows DART to issue `5unior" or "subordinate" lien pledges for bonds. • Amend Chapter 452 to provide DART the statutory authority to charge differential rates for parking. WORK WITH OTHER METROPOLITAN TRANSIT AUTHORITIES TO: • Exempt Transportation Authorities from the payment of the state motor fuels tax. ACTIVELY MONITOR: • Legislation filed relating to the Regional Transportation Couneil's "Rail North Texas" initiative toward achieving a possible menu of funding options to expand passenger rail service in the region. 082608 COW LegAgendaFP-revisadf,doc
