HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance No. 14/005 Cancel 2014 Election ORDINANCE 14/005 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY PARK, TEXAS, DECLARING UNOPPOSED CANDIDATES FOR MAYOR AND COUNCILMEMBER ELECTED TO OFFICE; CANCELLING THE ELECTION; REQUIRING ISSUANCE OF A CERTIFICATE OF ELECTION TO EACH CANDIDATE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, an election was called for May 10, 2014, to elect a Mayor and four members of the City Council; and WHEREAS, no proposition or opposed at-large race appears on the ballot and the City Secretary has certified that there is only one candidate for Mayor and four candidates for Councilmember and that,therefore,each candidate is unopposed for office; and WHEREAS, no candidate's name has been placed on a list of write-in candidates for any office under applicable law; and WHEREAS,the City Secretary has delivered such certification to the City Council; NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY PARK,TEXAS: SECTION 1. The City Council finds that the above stated premises are true and correct. SECTION 2. That the unopposed candidates for City Council listed below are hereby declared elected to the office listed and shall be issued certificates of election following the time the election would have been canvassed,to wit: Olin Lane,Jr., Mayor, for a term of two years; Taylor Armstrong, Councilmember, for a term of two years; Bob Begert, Councilmember, for a term of two years; Dawn Moore, Councilmember, for a term of two years; and Tommy Stewart, Councilmember, for a term of two years. SECTION 3. The City Secretary is directed to issue a Certificate of Election to each of the above named members of the City Council in the manner and at the same time as provided for a candidate elected to office at the election. Each person elected must qualify for the office in the manner provided by the Texas Constitution. SECTION 4. The May 10, 2014 General Municipal Election is cancelled and the City Secretary is directed to cause a copy of this ordinance to be posted on Election Day at each polling place used or that would have been used in the election. SECTION 5. This ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage, as the law and Charter in such cases provide.
