Miss Dory Anderson will be in the downtown store and Mies - Sue Plaske has been scheduled for the NorthPark store to explain the Pantene Plan for individual hair types. The Panten Company, consid- ered a leader in the field of hair care, was launched more fb n 23 years ago in Switzer- land. The product has a special. chemical formula containing ingredients which "are espe- cially beneficial to hair," ac- cording to company spokes- men. Americans traveling abroad discovered the Pantene prod- ucts, and by repeated demand, Patene was brought to the United States in 1964. The first store in America to have Pan- tene was Neiman-Marcus. Today, these products are made in the United States by the same formulas as those made in Switzerland, continu- ing the premise that "total hair care is essential for healthy looking hair." —,ROSE MARGARET HARTON. Monday, June 7, 1971 A Matter of Taste Make Wedding Gift A Thing to Treasure By WILLIAM PAHLMANN Fellow, AID The nuptial season is upon us and in spite of a good deal of sophisticated talk about the decline of matrimony as an in- stitution, a good many brides continue to go down the aisle in white satin and lace, and the engraved invitations and announcements continue to fall in hundreds of mail boxes all over the country. The custom of giving wed- ding presents still flourishes, but young . lifestyles have changed, and money is o'ten spent for objects that languish in storage because the young are on the mov@ or don't have time to polish them. These changes should be considered when it come to choosing wedding gifts. Probably the easiest way to send wedding presents is to consult the bride's chosen pat- terns in silver, china and crys- tal and dispatch an example. Such gifts won't lack for ap- preciation, since the bride has chosen the motif herself, and may be depending on her gifts to round out basic equipment for the home she may have someday. NorthPark and Next Door only Super Summer Sportswear Sale fit 1/3 to 112'. off and More! • Blouses "`; k • Shorts •.Wants • Skirts Knickers But if your budget is limited and the cost of the bridal pat- terns will permit you to send only one salad fork or bread- and-butter plate in the chosen pattern, with a little effort you may be able to send something immediately useful and there- fore beloved. Or if ,you can af- ford to be profligate, you can find something more adventur- ous. Occasional furniture is a good idea for a wedding pres- ent, and some of the small things young couples like are: parsons tables, lacquered in brilliant colors or finished with tortoise -shell or cane patterns: wicker furniture pieces, such as tub -back wicker chairs, rat- tan stools, taborets or wicker chests; Bentwood chairs— straight or rockers; canvas of- ficer chairs, glass -topped ta- bles or vitrines or etageres of glass and chromium or brass; hassocks and stools; magazine racks; and tables, a hanging book shelf. Antiques are very acceptable as wedding presents—either in furniture or accessories. Small pieces of fine porcelain dress up a first home. Antique can- dlesticks and candelabra may become household goods. An- tique boxes, clocks, figurines, cachepots, old glass, and a va- riety of small objects make memorable presents. Paintings are unusually treasured, and the gift of a small Oriental rug may be very desirable. Linens are often overlooked and while few modern brides can make use of the elaborate linens of the past, due to laun- dry problems, contour sheets, brilliantly colored bath and hand towels with monograms, hemstitched table mats and napkins of white or natural lin- en, blanket covers, , mono- grammed guest tower, colorful table cloths and a trousseau of kitchen towels will be valued. Gourmet cooking equipment, which is now in enormous sup- ply and variation, offers a wide field of choice—anything from a fondue pot to a barbe. cue wagon. A set of second- best dishes of pottery or iron. stone, which go in the dish- washer, or a set of inexpensive stainless steel flatware will be valued and used. Housewares departments and hardware stores offer a happy hunting ground for different wedding presents. The important thing about choosing a wedding present is that you'll enjoy giving it more if you don't think of it simply as an obligation to be disposed of, and if you do think of the young and the way they live these days. The majority of the young people opt for something that isn't pretentious and that is functional. Most of them will have to move around for sev- eral years so they don't really want elaborate things.
