AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY PARK, TEXAS, CREATING A
SCHOOL TRAFFIC ZONE ON HILLCREST FROM 260 FEET NORTH OF
WENTWOOD DRIVE TO 315 FEET SOUTH OF WENTWOOD DRIVE, WITH A
MAXIMUM SPEED LIMIT OF TWENTY MILES PER HOUR DURING SCHOOL ZONE
HOURS; PROVIDING FOR A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; PROVIDING A PENALTY OF
FINE NOT TO EXCEED THE SUM OF TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS ($200.00) FOR
EACH OFFENSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, based on a traffic and engineering study, the City Council finds that the
maximum lawful prima facie speed limit should be reduced in a school traffic zone near elementary
school number 5; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY
PARK, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That there is hereby established a school traffic zone on Hillcrest Avenue,
from a point that is 260 feet north of its intersection with Wentwood Drive to a point that is 315
feet south of its intersection with Wentwood Drive.
SECTION 2. As provided in Section 12.04.071 of the Code of Ordinances, the maximum
legal speed limit for the school zone established herein, from 7:15a.m. to 8:30a.m. and from
2:30 p. m. to 4:00 p. m. on school days, shall be twenty (20) miles per hour, and any person
operating a motor vehicle in such school zone more than such limit shall be guilty of a
misdemeanor and subject to a fine as provided herein.
SECTION 3. All ordinances of the City of University Park, Texas, in conflict with the
provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.
SECTION 4. Should any sentence, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase or section of
this ordinance be adjudged or held to be unconstitutional, illegal or invalid, the same shall not
affect the validity of this ordinance, or any part or provision hereof other than the part so decided
to be invalid, illegal or unconstitutional.
SECTION 5. Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions or terms of
this ordinance shall be subject to the same penalty as provided for in the Code of Ordinances of
the City of University Park, Texas, and upon conviction shall be punished by a fine not to exceed
the sum of two hundred dollars ($200.00) for each offense.
SECTION 6. This ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage and the
publication of the caption as the law and Charter in such cases provide, subject to the erection of
signs complying with the requirements of the Texas Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices
and giving notice of the speed limit established hereby.
Duly passed by the City Council of the City of University Park, Texas on the 7th day of

DURING SCHOOL ZONE HOURS; PROVIDING FOR A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE;
PROVIDING A PENALTY OF FINE NOT TO EXCEED THE SUM OF TWO HUNDRED
DOLLARS ($200.00) FOR EACH OFFENSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
