INTERSECTION WITH SOUTHWESTERN BOULEVARD TO A POINT 305 FEET

INTERSECTION WITH SOUTHWESTERN BOULEVARD,WITH A MAXIMUM
SPEED LIMIT OF TWENTY MILES PER HOUR DURING SCHOOL ZONE HOURS;
AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES TO PROVIDE EFFECTIVE HOURS OF
7:15 A.M.TO 8:30 A.M.AND 2:45 P.M.TO 4:15 P.M.ON SCHOOL DAYS FOR ALL
SCHOOL TRAFFIC ZONES IN THE CITY;REPEALING THE SCHOOL TRAFFIC
ZONES ON HILLCREST AVENUE FROM 260 FEET NORTH OF WENTWOOD DRIVE
TO 315 FEET SOUTH OF WENTWOOD DRIVE AND ON HILLCREST AVENUE FROM
170 FEET NORTH OF ITS INTERSECTION WITH CARUTH BOULEVARD TO A
POINT 190 FEET SOUTH OF ITS INTERSECTION WITH CARUTH BOULEVARD;
PROVIDING FOR A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE;PROVIDING A PENALTY OF FINE
NOT TO EXCEED THE SUM OF TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS ($200.00)FOR EACH
OFFENSE;AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS,based on a traffic and engineering study,the City Council finds that the
maximum lawful prima facie speed limit should be reduced in school traffic zones serving Michael
M.Boone Elementary School;NOW,THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY
PARK,TEXAS:
SECTION 1.That the following school traffic zones are created:
a.On Wentwood Drive from the point of its intersection with Airline Road to a point 385 feet
west,
b.On Centenary Drive from the point of its intersection with Airline Road to a point 445 feet
west,
c.On Marquette Street from the point of its intersection with Airline Road to a point 445 feet
west,
d.On Southwestern Boulevard from a point 370 feet west of Airline Road to a point 380 feet
east of its intersection with Durham Street,
e.On Durham Street from a point 300 feet south of its intersection with Southwestern
Boulevard to a point 305 feet north of its intersection with Southwestern Boulevard,and
f.On Airline Road from a point 300 feet south of its intersection with Southwestern
Boulevard to a point 305 feet north of its intersection with Southwestern Boulevard.
SECTION 2.Section 12.04.071 of the Code of Ordinances is hereby amended to delete
the last three sentences and add the following:"The effective times for all school traffic zones in
the City shall be from 7:15 a.m.to 8:30 a.m.and from 2:45 p.m.to 4:15 p.m.on school days."
SECTION 3.That the existing school traffic zones on Hillcrest Avenue from a point that
is 260 feet north of its intersection with Wentwood Drive to a point that is 315 feet south of its
intersection with Wentwood Drive,and on Hillcrest Avenue from a point 170 feet north of its
intersection with Caruth Boulevard to a point 190 feet south of its intersection with Caruth
Boulevard and all other ordinances of the City of University Park,Texas,in conflict with the
provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.
SECTION 4.Should any sentence,paragraph,subdivision,clause,phrase or section of
this ordinance be adjudged or held to be unconstitutional,illegal or invalid,the same shall not
affect the validity of this ordinance,or any part or provision hereof other than the part so decided
to be invalid,illegal or unconstitutional.
SECTION 5.Any person violating any of the provisions or terms of this ordinance shall
be subject to the same penalty as provided for in the Code of Ordinances of the City of University
Park,Texas,and upon conviction shall be punished by a fine not to exceed the sum of two hundred
dollars ($200.00)for each offense.
SECTION 6.This ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage and the
publication of the caption as the law and Charter in such cases provide,subject to the erection of
signs complying with the requirements of the Texas Uniform Manual of Traffic Control Devices
and giving notice of the speed limits established hereby.
