AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY PARK, TEXAS,
AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF
UNIVERSITY PARK, CHAPTER 12, SIGN REGULATIONS, BY
AMENDING SECTIONS 12.233, 12.237 AND 12.250 REGULATING
POLITICAL SIGNS; PROVIDING FOR THE REPEAL OF ALL
ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE;
PROVIDING FOR A PENALTY OF FINE NOT TO EXCEED THE SUM OF
FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($500.00) FOR EACH OFFENSE; AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
UNIVERSITY PARK, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That Chapter 12, Article 12.200, Section 12.233, of the Code
of Ordinances, City of University Park, Texas, is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 12.233 Aggregate Area of Temporary Signs in Residential Zones
The aggregate area of all temporary signs, excluding the area of authorized
address or political signs, permitted on a lot in a residential zone shall not
exceed twelve (12) square feet."
SECTION 2. That Chapter 12, Article 12.200, Section 12.237, of the Code
of Ordinances, City of University Park, Texas, is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 12.237 Political Signs in Residential Zones
Political signs, not exceeding thirty-six (36) square feet in area or eight feet
(8') in height, shall be permitted on a residential lot, subject to the setback
requirements of Section 12.235. Such signs shall not be illuminated. Such
signs shall not have any moving parts. Such signs shall not require a permit
or be subject to a fee."
SECTION 3. That Chapter 12, Article 12.200, Section 12.250, of the Code
of Ordinances, City of University Park, Texas, is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 12.250 Political Signs
Political signs, not exceeding thirty-six (36) square feet in area or eight feet

(8') in height, shall be permitted, subject to the setback requirements of
Section 12.235. Such signs shall not be illuminated. Such signs shall not
have any moving parts. Such signs shall not require a permit or be subject to
a fee."
SECTION 4. That all provisions of the Code of Ordinances of the City of
University Park, Texas, in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance be, and the
same are hereby, repealed.
SECTION 5. That should any word, sentence, paragraph, subdivision,
clause, phrase or section of this ordinance or of the Code of Ordinances, as amended
hereby, be adjudged or held to be void or unconstitutional, the same shall not affect
the validity of the remaining portions of said ordinance or the Code of Ordinances, as
amended hereby, which shall remain in full force and effect.
SECTION6. Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the
provisions of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon
conviction in the municipal court of the City of University Park, Texas, shall be
punished by a fine not to exceed the sum of five hundred dollars ($500.00) for each
offense, and each and every day any such violation shall continue shall be deemed to
constitute a separate offense.
SECTION 7. That this ordinance shall take effect immediately from and
after its passage and the publication of the caption, as the law and Charter in such
cases provide.
DULY PASSED by the City Council of the City of University Park, Texas,
on the 18th day of February 2004.
